Woman arrested in sex toy store raid

A woman who authorities say helped smuggle sex toys into a sex toy shop in Los Angeles was arrested in a raid in the Santa Monica Mountains, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The Santa Monica County District Attorney’s office said Sunday that a man and a woman were arrested Sunday night at a home in the 6800 block of South Beryl Road.

They were arrested after a three-hour operation, the DA’s office reported.

The suspect was identified as 43-year-old Michelle D. Gervais of Santa Monica.

She faces a number of charges, including conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance, possession of a controlled drug with intent of distribution and possession of methamphetamine.

Geegan D. Taylor, a spokeswoman for the district attorney’s office, said Gervas arrest was not related to the recent sexual assault case in Santa Monica involving the suspected owner of a sex shop called X-Art, which is based in Santa Barbara.

The case was closed, Taylor said.

The district attorney is investigating a separate case involving Gervaas alleged co-owner, 52-year old Richard A. Johnson.

He was arrested Friday night after authorities said they found a box containing more than 1,000 sex toys, as well as condoms, lubricants, and other items at his home.

The investigation is ongoing.
